The administrative office building for the power plant of Jindal Power Limited at Tamnar, Chhattisgarh, was conceived as a “swaskita” plan form with four arms around a central core. The four arms, housing different administrative departments, can grow outwards to form courtyards as the plant is expanded. In the first phase only one of the arms forms a courtyard.
The building has a tubular steel structure supporting a sloping galvalume sheet roof. Glass and glass-brick walls span between columns and are shaded by the overhanging roof. The central core of the “swastika” is topped with a skylight.
The form and proportions of the building are based on local architectural traditions while the materials create a contemporary work environment.
