Jeevashram Animal Shelter, was founded to suppress and prevent cruelty towards destitute, homeless, or abused animals.

Set at the edge of the urban village of Rajokri, in Delhi, the building aims to create a healing space for the animals based on the recognition of their dignity within their own territory and space.

The articulation of various courtyards seeks to establish an interactive relationship of an animal with other animals and human beings, thus aiding the process of healing.

The building houses a veterinary centre and an operation theatre for animals from Rajokri village and the city of Delhi.

The building is characterized by a rhythmic composition of load bearing arches and corbels in brick and brick tiles supporting sandstone slab chhajas and roofs. The openings articulate light and air at the scale of the animals.
